About us

J Aaron Cundall, AKA Little Elmo

Band Leader of Little Elmo and The Mambo Kings, based in Denton Texas. “The Mambo Kings got their start in the late 80’s and their name from a BBQ Joint in Indianapolis, Zeb’s Ribs”. “On the side of his building in flaming neon letters it said “Mambo Sauce”, Zeb’s fabulous and zesty BBQ sauce. It was a favorite
hang out for me years ago and so I named the Mambo Kings after it” says Elmo

Elmo’s primary instrument is his cherry red Custom Shop Fender Telecaster Guitar and what ever microphone stands in front of his face. “I’ve been playing guitar since I was 7. A lady named Lu Mitchell taught
me in Dallas in the early 60’s. She was a great performer herself with
many recordings to her credit”, says Elmo. Performing his own style of Jump Blues, Boogie Woogie and Swing for over
40 years has been a great ride for Elmo. His major influences are Louis
Jordan, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Albert Collins and BB King plus both Lead Belly and all the early blues recording artists. “When I was 10 I listened to Lead Belly’s Midnight Special, over and over on Dad’s Hi-Fi.
Then I discovered Blind Lemon Jefferson and other Texas Blues artists. I
was hooked”. adds Elmo. “This music is “Feel Good” music for both the audience and me as a
performer. You just have to move, tap your toes, or get up and boogie
your socks off”, says Elmo. “It’s truly American Music, with roots in Black Gospel, Field Hollers, Slavery and freedom from oppression”. Rock
and Roll, Country, even Rap have ties to this American Genre. This music was born in America, played by Americans and we keep it alive and strong
with our performances”, says Elmo.

“This music is who I am and who I’ll always be”.       J Aaron “Little Elmo”
